Bombable Wall
Bombable Wall is a background actor in Ocarina of Time.
Placement
A wall that bombs, Bombchus, the Megaton Hammer and Bomb Flower blasts all break, scattering rubble as it goes. The Switch Flag is its memory: the wall removes itself on load if that flag is already set, and sets the flag when it breaks. Anything else in the scene watching the same flag can react to it.
There are two volumes here. The surface the player bumps into is ordinary collision. The part that notices an explosion is a panel the actor rebuilds each time it draws, so a wall that gets culled stays solid but stops being bombable until it comes back into view. On the two upright types that panel is about 160 units square.
Type variants (4)
This actor is placed in one of these forms. Pick it from the editor's Type dropdown. The value is what the actor's parameters store.
| Value | Type | |
|---|---|---|
![]() | 0 | Dodongo's Cavern EntranceThe boulder that seals Dodongo's Cavern. It spawns and breaks anywhere, but the cutscene belongs to the actor rather than to the scene, so the cavern's opening flythrough plays over whatever happens to be around it. Breaking it also sets the “entered Dodongo's Cavern” save flag for good, and other actors read that flag: the real dungeon then skips its own intro, its title card behaves as though the player had already been there, and the giant skull outside sits with its jaw open. It only happens once. On a save that already has the flag, this breaks like any other wall. |
![]() | 1 | WallThe plain bombable wall, and the default. No cutscene, no save flag, nothing tied to one dungeon. |
| No preview yet | 2 | King Dodongo FloorKing Dodongo's breakable lava floor, drawn from that boss's models. It overwrites its own pitch as it spawns, so aiming it at an angle will not give you a sloped surface. Its bomb hitbox is a small square at the marker rather than the upright panel the walls use, and it breaks with an explosion instead of the usual crumble. |
| No preview yet | 3 | King Dodongo Lava CoverThe slab the game slides over King Dodongo's lava once he is beaten, so the pool stops burning. It has no model at all, and since the bomb hitbox comes from drawing, nothing can break it. What it can be is a slowly rising invisible platform, which is a real use even if the name does not suggest it. King Dodongo spawns this one himself, so no vanilla scene places it. |
Parameters
Beyond the type above, the parameters hold these fields. The editor shows each as a labelled control.

- Type
bits 13–14:0Dodongo's Cavern Entrance,1Wall,2King Dodongo Floor,3King Dodongo Lava Coverall 4 values usedWhich surface this is. Wall is the plain bombable one. The other three carry extra behaviour of their own, described as you pick them. - Secret Chime
bit 15: on / offAdds the treasure-appearing jingle to the break, the cue that says a wall was hiding something. Vanilla uses it on nearly every wall in Dodongo's Cavern. - Switch Flag (set once it breaks)
bits 0–5: 0–63all 64 values usedOne of the scene's 64 switch flags. Actors that share a number are linked: when one sets it, every actor reading it reacts. Flags 0 to 31 are saved with the game, 32 to 55 reset when you leave the scene, and 56 to 63 reset on every room change. Pick a number nothing else in this scene uses unless you mean to link them. The panel's link list shows who shares it.
