Redead and Gibdo
Redead and Gibdo is an enemy actor in Ocarina of Time.
Placement
On death it sets its scene switch flag — and unlike most actors it has no "none" option, so the default already wires switch flag 0. Give it an unused flag if anything else in the scene reacts to switch flags; vanilla parks its throwaway ReDeads on 127, which the game folds onto the same room-change flag as 63.
Type variants (7)
This actor is placed in one of these forms. Pick it from the editor's Type dropdown. The value is what the actor's parameters store. Each picture is fitted to its cell, so compare the stated sizes and not the images.
| Value | Type | |
|---|---|---|
![]() | 0 | ReDead~68 units tall |
![]() | 1 | ReDead (Follows the pack)~68 units tall |
![]() | 2 | ReDead (Mourning — starts kneeling)~33 units tall |
![]() | 3 | ReDead (Invisible, Lens of Truth)~68 units tall |
![]() | 255 | ReDead (Never roused)~68 units tall |
![]() | 254 | Gibdo~70 units tall |
![]() | 253 | Gibdo (Rises from a coffin — starts lying down)~23 units tallThis is the coffin Gibdo: it spawns LYING ON ITS BACK with gravity off and rises when Link comes near. Vanilla never places one in a room — a coffin lid spawns it — so on open ground it reads as a body on the floor until it gets up. |
Parameters
Beyond the type above, the parameters hold these fields. The editor shows each as a labelled control.
Shown: 0x0000, the value a newly placed copy starts with.

bits 0–7:0ReDead,1ReDead (Follows the pack),2ReDead (Mourning — starts kneeling),3ReDead (Invisible, Lens of Truth),255ReDead (Never roused),254Gibdo,253Gibdo (Rises from a coffin — starts lying down)7 of 256 values usedInit reads this byte SIGNED (0x80–0xFF are negative), and the sign is what picks the model: negative below -1 is a Gibdo, everything else a ReDead. Mourning kneels and sobs until something rouses it, then stands up and behaves like an ordinary ReDead. Killing any ReDead rouses every other one in the scene whose type is 0 or above — 'Follows the pack' additionally rejoins the chase after it has started walking home, and 'Never roused' (and both Gibdos) ignore the call entirely. Every value from 0x80 to 0xFD is the coffin Gibdo. - Switch Flag (set on death)
bits 8–14: 0–127all 128 values usedOne of the scene's 64 switch flags. Actors that share a number are linked: when one sets it, every actor reading it reacts. Flags 0 to 31 are saved with the game, 32 to 55 reset when you leave the scene, and 56 to 63 reset on every room change. Pick a number nothing else in this scene uses unless you mean to link them. The panel's link list shows who shares it. - Doesn't Freeze Link
bit 15: on / offSilences the paralysing stare — Link can walk straight past instead of being frozen for 40-60 frames. It can still GRAB him at close range; only the freeze is gated. This is what makes the Market Ruins ReDeads passable.
