Dialog Spot
Dialog Spot is an item/action actor in Ocarina of Time.
Placement
Draws nothing static. It renders procedurally or not at all, so it may be invisible in the editor even when placed correctly.
An invisible dialog region: the low 6 bits are its switch flag (0x3F = none — otherwise pre-set suppresses it and reading the text claims it), bits 6-13 pick the message (id 0x200 + value), and the top two bits the mode — 0 talk-to-read, 1 FORCED auto-play that halts all actors on approach, 2 repeatable check, 3 inert.
Its Z-ROTATION is the trigger range/targeting preset, not orientation (0 = the base 40-unit reach; each step of ~10 adds range).
Talk Mode variants (4)
This actor is placed in one of these forms. Pick it from the editor's Talk Mode dropdown. The value is what the actor's parameters store.
| Value | Talk Mode | |
|---|---|---|
| No draw function | 0 | Talk On Approach |
| No draw function | 1 | Forced Dialog |
| No draw function | 2 | Check Only (no flag) |
| No draw function | 3 | Lock-On Only |
Parameters
Beyond the talk mode above, the parameters hold these fields. The editor shows each as a labelled control.
Shown: 0x0000, the value a newly placed copy starts with.
- Talk Mode
bits 14–15:0Talk On Approach,1Forced Dialog,2Check Only (no flag),3Lock-On Onlyall 4 values used - Text
bits 6–13: 0–255all 256 values usedThe text this actor shows. Pick a message from the browser, which lists the text of every entry, or add your own. The value stored here is the message id minus this actor's fixed base. - Switch Flag (0x3F = none)
bits 0–5: 0–63all 64 values usedOne of the scene's 64 switch flags. Actors that share a number are linked: when one sets it, every actor reading it reacts. Flags 0 to 31 are saved with the game, 32 to 55 reset when you leave the scene, and 56 to 63 reset on every room change. Pick a number nothing else in this scene uses unless you mean to link them. The panel's link list shows who shares it.
Rotation fields
This actor reads these rotation fields as settings, not as a direction. The editor shows each one as a number field.
| Field | Axis | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Message Range | Z | Values 1 to 10 set the talk range, 40 units plus 40 times the value. Each 10 added on top picks a different targeting distance. |
